Over 250 Participate in the Hever Castle Evening Sprint Triathlon Series

Created On: 10 June 2011

Wednesday (8th June) saw over 250 triathletes, including first timers, elites and kids racing around the stunning grounds of Hever Castle. The race was the second of the three events, which form the Evening Sprint Triathlon Series in aid of Help for Heroes and Talking2Minds. To date the Castle Triathlon Series has raised over £1,500 for charity and fundraising continues across all the events.

The Evening Sprint Triathlon Series was a great evening of racing that appealed to both an 8 year old doing their first triathlon, first time competitor and an elite performer wanting a well-organised sprint or super sprint triathlon to complement their training. There were three race distances, which kicked off at 5pm:

-       Adult Sprint: 750m/20km/5km (swim/cycle/run)

-       Adult Super Sprint: 400m/20km/4km

-       Junior and Children: 300m/4km/4km, 200m/4km/2km, 100m/4km/1.3km

Race Director, Brian Adcock commented: "It was great to see even more people at the second Evening Sprint Triathlon. The stunning surroundings of Hever Castle on a Spring Evening were always going to attract a keen audience and the timings and format seem to work well with everyone."

All triathletes started off with an open water swim in the spectacular 38-acre Hever Castle Lake, transitioning into the cycle which took place around the 20km circuit through the High Weald of Kent an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty used on the Hever Castle Triathlon main event. The run then circumnavigated the estate and award winning castle grounds before making the dash to the finish beside the lake.

The next Evening Sprint Triathlon event is due to take place on Wednesday 13th July. Registration is now open online and also accepted on the evening.
