Crème de la Crème of British and French Triathletes do battle at Château de Chantilly

Created On: 28 June 2011

The age old, cross-channel rivalry had a new battlefront on Monday 27th June with a new triathlon challenge taking place at the magnificent Chateau de Chantilly, France, to celebrate the launch of the second Chateau de Chantilly Triathlon.  A team of GBR elite racers took on an elite FR crack team over a 1500m course in the stunning Grand Canal, the main water feature on the Chateau's estate. The Chateau de Chantilly triathlon (28th August) is the third weekend event in the Castle Triathlon Series 2011.

The challenge, where the French team were defeated by the GB elites, took place at the Château itself and was marked with a swim race between the two teams. As well as many locals and media cheering the swimmers on, the launch was attended by the Mayor of Chantilly, Monsieur Eric Woerth.

British elites competing in the contest included Tom Room, Adam Grice and Luke Watson. The French team was made up of four members of Chantilly triathlon clubs including Colin Childes, Phillipe Martin, Emmanuel Burnet and Élodie Louvet,

Race Director, Brian Adcock comments; "This launch event gave us an opportunity to showcase some of the best British and French triathlon talent and build excitement for the already popular Chantilly event. We hope this challenge will not only help attract more elite athletes to the event, but also inspire youngsters and those new to the sport to join in. We're delighted to welcome some of the sport's top flight triathletes to Castle Chantilly for what is set to be a really exciting event."

The Chateau de Chantilly Triathlon is set to take place on the 28th August 2011, just under a year before the 2012 games take place in London. The two teams of world class athletes competing in this swim could be seen as a predictor for the games themselves.

Brian continues, "2011 has already seen a huge increase in the number of people signing up for the Castle Triathlon Series, with a cross section of participants entering the increased range of race formats available at each venue. We've seen the biggest elite registration since opening and are getting the critical club support on which the Series thrives. We are also delighted with the number of newcomers, entering a triathlon for the first time, in what is the fastest growing sport in the world"."

The Castle Triathlon Series

The Castle Triathlon Series comprises four exciting weekend races and a midweek evening sprint series over the course of the summer. Each offers a high quality, competitive and safe race set in beautiful grounds and truly spectacular surroundings. Very few races in the country offer such a stunning and motivational race setting, testament to the 4,000 who took part in 2010.

Participants range from elite stars, to first timers and children (aged 8 to 15 years old). The event has huge appeal to families who want to enjoy a fun and safe event together. Triathletes are encouraged to raise money for the chosen national charity 'Help for Heroes' and for different local charities at each venue.
