Thurrock based triathlete, Martin Longhurst, was over the moon when informed that he was the winner of the Lakeside Triathlon prize draw for a B Twin Carbon Comp FC700 Triple road bike worth £1500, provided by the event's headline sponsor, Decathlon.

Martin, based in Aveley, a few miles from the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex which plays host to the sprint distance triathlon, was randomly selected from over 200 participants registered for the event by 15 April and will be proudly riding his brand new full carbon road bike in the event on 19 June. Martin was presented with his prize at Decathlon Lakeside by Store Manager Caro Boccard on Tuesday 3rd May 2011.

Competition winner Martin said,   "I never expected to win. I competed in the inaugural event last year, my first season in triathlon, and I loved it, so to be competing this year on a brand new lightweight carbon bike is absolutely brilliant".

Decathlon, the world's biggest sports retail chain, supplying equipment and clothing for over 70 different sports, is headline sponsor for the Lakeside Triathlon, organised by OneStepBeyond Promotions in partnership with Triathlon Racing Inc. Decathlon's Lakeside store supported the inaugural triathlon in 2010 on a low key basis but was so impressed with the event that it had no hesitation in stepping up to become headline sponsor, joining other repeat sponsors including Wagamama, the worldwide restaurant chain, to positively contribute to the experience of the competitor, spectator and volunteer.

"We are proud to be supporting such a fantastic event taking place right on our doorstep." said Caro Boccard, Decathlon Lakeside Store Manager. 'It is great to offer such a great prize to one of the races very own competitors'.

This unique and very exciting event hosted by Lakeside Shopping Centre, consists of a 750m swim in the centre's Alexandra Lake, a 20km bike and a 5km run.  It will provide up to 500 individuals with a really fast flat course that will definitely appeal to both the experienced triathlete and novice first timer.  Athletes can expect to have lots of support on the day as the course is overlooked by various viewing areas, bars, cafes, restaurants and shops.
