Race Report: For Goodness Shakes XTFestival

Created On: 28 September 2010

What a weekend! allabouttriathlons' Race Director Toby Jenkins said he was "shattered" after the For Goodness Shakes XTFestival at Hawley Lake in Camberley. Spread over two days, the events, which included a full XTT Triathlon, XTD Duathlon, XT10 Run and XTM Mountain-bike Enduro, attracted more than 500 entrants.

On a beautifully crisp day, and cheered on by a sizeable crowd enjoying the autumn sunshine, Hamish Batchelor braved a biting wind to win the full XTT in a shade under two hours, three minutes ahead of Cedric Lassonde. Sam Gardner was a further two minutes behind in third. Tamsin Lewis was the first woman home in 2hrs 22mins.

Batchelor was delighted with the win and equally pleased with the condition of the course: "I did the XTerra in Switzerland last week but this was more technical and more exciting, and the atmosphere was better."

Sunday dawned fresh and bright with a chilly wind. The XT10 consisted of a 5-, 10- or 21km run, while the XTM (a new event for the allabouttriathlons team) was a 4-hour mountain-bike enduro. Colin Wood won the XT21 in 1hr 24mins. Sam Humphrey won the enduro, completing 16 laps of a gruelling course. Winner of the XT5 Nick Druce said it had been a "great day out and fun for all the family".

Toby would like to extend his thanks to all the marshals for making sure both days ran smoothly, and to Snow and Rock www.snowandrock.com and Cycle Surgery www.cyclesurgery.com for providing the prizes. Whyte Bikes www.whytebikes.com had the athletes drooling over their range of ultra-cool mountain-bikes.
