Last Chance to Enter the Hever Castle Triathlon

Created On: 27 August 2010

Over 2,500 adults and children from across the county are registered and preparing to undertake the Hever Castle Triathlon next month with just a few places left for those wishing to take part. The event completes the Castle Triathlon Series as the last of four castles* to host the family event this year.

In its second year, the Hever Castle Triathlon is now likely to be the third largest triathlon in the country. It is also set to become one of the biggest children's triathlons with over 250 8-15 year olds competing. Participants range from first timers and families, to elite stars, all competing against the stunning backdrop of Hever Castle and raising money for the chosen charities 'Help for Heroes' and 'Jigsaw4u'.

Triathletes will start with an open water swim in the spectacular 38 acre Hever Castle Lake, transitioning into the cycle which will take place around a 20km circuit through the High Weald of Kent, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with one lap for the sprint and two laps for the Olympic distance. The run circumnavigates the estate and castle grounds before making the dash to the finish beside the lake.

Seven races are planned over the course of the two day event**, each themed after the 13th century castle's history as the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.

The Castle Triathlon Series is supported by the British Triathlon Association (BTA) as part of a major new drive to promote triathlon as a sport nationally and encourage novices to have a go. Race Director, Brian Adcock comments; "Triathlon's are becoming increasingly popular, and have been recently described as the new golf.  We want to do something different by bringing together elite triathletes as well as novice and young participants and offer an opportunity for the family to race together. This triathlon series aims to celebrate the heroes, create new ones and inspire a new breed of triathlon fans."

World triathlete and silver medallist for her age group, Jill Parker, is getting ready to race the Hever Triathlon after winning the race last year. She shares her thoughts on why the Hever Triathlon is so spectacular; "It is not often that you get to race in such stunning surroundings.  While the focus is on competing, the views and historic setting of the lake and the castle make the race so much more motivational and enjoyable.  I also love participating in an event so close to my home with such a supportive crowd and professional set-up.  I think this year's event is going to be even more exciting to be part of than last year."
