Bala Standard Distance Triathlon presents final qualification opportunity for Alanya
Created On: 07 September 2012
The Bala Standard Distance Triathlon takes place this Sunday 9
September representing the final opportunity for age-group
triathletes to book their place in the GE Great Britain Age-Group
Team for the 2013 Alanya ETU Triathlon European Championships.
The qualification process began at the Bedford Classic in July
with the second opportunity at last weekend's GE Strathclyde Park
Triathlon, where athletes had the chance to cross the same finish
line as the elite athletes who raced in the penultimate event of
the British Triathlon Super Series later in the day.
Anna Turvey finished as the first overall female at the event as
she aimed to qualify for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team
competing in Turkey.
After the race, Anna commented about her enjoyment of racing for
the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team: "When I started in triathlon I
thought how cool it would be to get on the Great Britain squad, and
then I did. I was just so excited to get there, and as I've
progressed through the years. I've been getting better and getting
up there in the medals. I think it's brilliant, I love the set up,
it's great to have something to aim for."
The Bala Standard Distance Triathlon is set in the lakeside town
of Bala, and will see competitors complete an opening 1,500m swim
around Llyn Tegid, before competitors embark on a 40km bike over
closed roads in the beautiful North Wales scenery. From T2,
athletes will complete a 10km run alongside the bike course,
creating a great atmosphere at the event as competitors look to
confirm their place in the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team.
Any athletes intending to qualify at the Bala Standard Distance
Triathlon event must register their intent to qualify on the
British Triathlon website by 5pm Friday 7th September 2012.
The event is being organised by Wrecsam Triathlon, with more
information available on www.wrecsamtri.org.uk
