Mark’s Tri Race Review
Created On: 08 April 2012
A beautiful, clear but chilly April morning greeted the
competitors to the second year of the Mark Tanton Memorial
Triathlon. Almost 200 young triathletes took part, either to
achieve their first triathlon or to gain points for themselves and
their club in this, the first event in the new season of the East
Midlands Children's Series.
In addition to the wave starts in each age group there were
seeded waves to ensure the best of the young athletes could compete
among themselves in some very close races
The weather warmed up soon after the start of the races and
local young bands from Rock School entertained athletes and
spectators from the balcony above transition
Following the children's races the course was altered to allow
50 adults to enjoy the event with the cycle route out on the open
road in a super sprint triathlon. This was the opportunity for
novices to have their first taste of a triathlon, and for
experience club athletes to practise a complete event over the
shorter distances, fine tuning their skills in preparation for
their forthcoming triathlon season.

Some comments from the event:
"This was our son's first Triathlon and the first time we had
been to such an event. It was very impressive and we fully
appreciate all the time and effort which had gone into planning
such an amazing sports event. Everybody we came into contact with
was friendly and very helpful. A very big well done to all. Thank
you"
"We really enjoyed the event and worth the drive from West
Sussex..."
