2012 Shock Absorber Women Only Triathlon now open
Created On: 14 December 2011
Organisers Human Race have announced that the 2012 Shock
Absorber Women Only Triathlon will take place on Sunday
10th June and entries are already open! On board once
again are title sponsor Shock Absorber and official charity, Breast
Cancer Care, who will raise vital funds through the event to
support people who have been affected by breast
The 2011 event saw 1,500 women take part in the annual women's
festival of swim, bike and run and with demand expected to increase
in 2012, capacity for the 2012 event has been raised to the 2,000
According to John Lunt, MD of organisers Human Race, it is the
completely unique atmosphere of the women only events that make
them such a highlight. "They are different to anything else on our
calendar, we love putting them on and they get more and more
popular every year, which is great to see."
The day includes a variety of different options with something
for all abilities. The Novice distance features a 200 metre swim, 5
kilometre bike and 2.5 kilometre run while the Challenge event sees
participants take on an 800m swim, 30km bike and 7.5km run. With a
Sprint distance event (400m, 20k, 5k) sandwiched in between the two
and a Relay option for those looking to take on the three
disciplines as part of a team, it's the perfect way for women of
all ages and abilities to take on the triathlon challenge.
Having the different distances on the same day means a great mix
of abilities come together to create a wonderful atmosphere,
bolstered by the presence of thousands of spectators cheering on
their loved ones. Something event sponsor Shock Absorber see as
particularly important to the success of the event, according to
Lisa Yeoman, Partnership & Events Manager at Shock Absorber
(UK's No1 sports bra brand). "Educating women on the importance of
wearing a well fitting sports bra when exercising is just one of
the reasons that Shock Absorber sponsors this fantastic event.
With the ever increasing number of women taking part in
Triathlon we want to share our extensive sports bra knowledge and
provide them with sports bras that can offer the support required
when taking part in sport."
Judy Beard, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at official event
charity Breast Cancer Care, said: "Every ten minutes in the UK
someone has a diagnosis of breast cancer. We want to be there for
each and every person and their friends and families too. That's
why we are so grateful for the support of the Shock Absorber
WomenOnly Triathlon. Without them we simply couldn't continue to
provide our free services."
