SwimFesT Series 2011 ends in style

Perfect weather, a record turnout and some excellent swimming
contributed to a superb finale to the 2011 SwimFesT Open Water
Series on Sunday 18 September at Lakeside, Essex.
17 years old Alex Panayides produced an inspiring swim in the 5K
race to win in a time of 1:03:56 with Pip Bennett finishing
strongly to beat Simon Emm into third place by only 11 seconds.
Super vet Peter Rae triumphed in the 3.8K race in a time of 58.00
followed by Kat Berry and Simon Trott in second and third
respectively. In the 1500m race 15 years old Charlie Smith just
broke the 18 minute mark to comfortably win the two lap event by 40
seconds with only four seconds separating Sonny Trigg and Theodore
Ross behind him. Josh Coleby was victorious in the 750m race
in a time of 9:09, 45 seconds ahead of Arran Rae, with Evangeline
Foster in third.
Held in partnership with Decathlon, the world's biggest sports
retail chain supplying equipment and clothing for over 70 different
sports and hosted by Lakeside Shopping Centre, SwimFesT has rapidly
become established as one of the best optional wetsuit open water
events in the calendar, uniquely offering split times for the 750
metre, 1500 metre, 3.8K and 5k race options over a 780 metre
course.
With swim-under touch pad electronic chip timing and an in-water
finish, spectator friendly facilities, and prizes and energy
products provided by sponsors Decathlon and Powerbar, SwimFesT is
proving popular with open water swimmers from the novice to the
elite.
