Geraint Thomas launches Cycle Show into new era

Created On: 30 September 2011

The Cycle Show's trade day, yesterday, 29 September, marked a new era as the event opened its doors for the first time at its new NEC location.

With increased exhibition space and room for two brand new outdoor demo tracks, the tenth anniversary Cycle Show welcomed trade and media to the event as exhibitors unveiled their product ranges for the 2012 season.

Andrew Brabazon, Cycle Show Event Director said: "This year's show is not just an exhibition in the traditional sense, but an interactive experience where visitors can actually try out a vast choice of bikes on our two brand new outdoor demo tracks - the perfect weekend to be riding out on all the new ranges in this beautiful weather".

Olympic and World champion, Geraint Thomas, officially opened the show and spent the day with trade visitors at the NEC.

The Dare 2b Mountain Bike Demo Track and the Road Bike Demo Track proved really popular, and many exhibitors reported having their best ever trade day.

Dan Jones, Marketing Manager for Windwave, said: "We had a very, very busy day yesterday. There were lots of people, and we hardly had a chance to relax all day.

"It's really refreshing to be at the NEC, it's a very nice venue and the organisation has been great. We saw people from all over the country yesterday and we would never have seen that in London so that's really good for business."

Claire Beaumont, Brand Manager for Condor, agreed: "Yesterday was a great first day for us. There were lots of trade visitors here and we had lots of new enquiries.

"If the rest of the weekend is like this, it will be a great show."

Andrew was pleased with the response to the show's trade day. He added: "All the feedback we've had so far has been really positive, with exhibitors and visitors reporting a lot of business having been done yesterday.

"Moving to Birmingham has allowed us the freedom and flexibility to spread out and take advantage of the outdoor space available, helping make the show more inspirational and appealing to a broader audience. We're expecting to see an upsurge in last year's visitors numbers over the four days of the show, and certainly, yesterday gave us every indication that we are on target to achieve that."

Today (Friday 30 September) saw newly-crowned Junior World Road Champion, Lucy Garner, open the doors to consumer visitors to the Birmingham show for the first time.

The show continues until Sunday (2 October) at Birmingham's NEC. Advance visitor tickets bought online and via the telephone hotline cost £12.50 for adults, £10.50 for concessions, £6.50 for children and entry is free to under 5s.
