Race Report: Clitheroe Triathlon
Created On: 24 August 2011
The recent wet weather held off long enough for the annual
Clitheroe Triathlon to stay dry and sunny as nearly 300 athletes
lined up to tackle the testing course.
After a 400m swim in Ribblesdale Pool, athletes set off for a
30K bike ride through the scenic Lancashire countryside.
The undulating course was relatively straightforward but did
hold one or two challenging climbs to keep competitors alert,
including Jefferies Hill with a leg-sapping gradient of 19%.
Finally an 8K out-and-back run, taking in a mixture of roads and
trails, brought athletes home to the finish line.
The tough course didn't stop some fast times being laid down.
Martin Tonge was the quickest man across the line with a time of
1:32:30. Meanwhile Christine Johnson took victory in the women's
race with a time of 1:45:20.
Epic Events' final triathlon event is the Ulverston triathlon,
which takes place on Sunday 11th September, based at
Lakes Leisure Ulverston, Cumbria. Enter online at epicevents.or
