Race Report: Darwen Triathlon
Created On: 07 June 2011
Over 140 athletes lined up to take on the re-launched Darwen
Triathlon, which took place on Sunday June 5 and was organised by
Epic Events in partnership with TriClan triathlon club.
The newly refurbished pool at Darwen provided a great venue for
competitors.
After a comfortable 400m swim racers then had to brave wet and
windy conditions on a tough 17.5mile bike ride with some sharp
hills to catch out the unprepared.
Waterproofs were the order of the day as racers then headed out
on a 4.5 mile run: a mixture of road and fell terrain that took
them up to Jubilee Tower and back.
The course boasts spectacular views which might have been more
enjoyable had the weather not taken a turn for the worst.
TriClan's own Mat Nuttall took first place, over three minutes
ahead of Brian Fogarty with a time of 1:32:05. Likewise, in the
women's race, Nicki Rushton established a clear lead to win in a
time of 2:04:49. Full results are available online at www.epicevents.org and pictures can be viewed
and ordered at www.sportsunday.co.uk
Competitors were quick to express their enjoyment of the event -
a few numb fingers and toes aside - and Epic Events are looking
forward to returning to Darwen in 2012.
