British Sprint Triathlon Championships Ready for Speedy Racing

The 2011 British Sprint Triathlon Championships take place on Sunday 29 May 2011. Over 600 triathletes will be racing to win the coveted British Championships at the Speedy Beaver Triathlon in Leicestershire.
The event, the third of eight British Championships in 2011 will showcase triathlon in the scenic countryside of the Vale of Belvoir. The 750m swim is followed by a rolling 20km bike course, which is synonymous with strong winds. Competitors then embark on a two-lap, 5km run course that is ideal for spectators to cheer on their friends and family.
The event is also the second of three qualifiers for the 2011 Beijing ITU Sprint Triathlon Championships, which are scheduled to take place in September this year. The first qualifier took place at the Eton Half Distance last weekend with the final opportunity at QE2 Sprint Triathlon on 5 June.
The event is also the first qualifier for the 2012 Eilat ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships.
Ian Braid, British Triathlon Board Director for Major and National Events, is looking forward to the event commenting: "The British Sprint Triathlon Championships are an important part of British Triathlon's Major Events calendar, providing the perfect platform for our Age Group athletes to achieve their personal triathlon challenges. To take part in any of our British Championships is always an exciting occasion for any athlete, and the standard of racing is always extremely high. Every athlete who tops the podium this weekend will of course be able to take their triathlon challenge to the next level by being a part of a GE Great Britain Age Group Team."
Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age Group, added: "The Speedy Beaver Triathlon will see age group athletes embark on a challenging course as they aim to book their place in not one, but two GE Great Britain Age Group Teams. With over 600 entries the standard and competition for places is strong, highlighting the continued growth of our modern and dynamic sport."
