250 Take Part in the First Hever Castle Evening Sprint Triathlon

Created On: 16 May 2011

Last week (Wednesday 11th May) saw over 250 triathletes, including first timers, elites and kids racing around the stunning grounds of Hever Castle. The race was the first of the three events which form the Evening Sprint Triathlon Series in aid of Help for Heroes and Talking2Minds.

This year is the first time the Evening Sprint Triathlon Series has taken place and is in response to triathletes demand and recognition of the venues prime location. The Evening Sprint Triathlon Series was a great evening of racing that appealed to both an 8 year old doing their first triathlon, first time competitor and an elite performer wanting a well-organised sprint or super sprint triathlon to complement their training. There were three race distances which kicked off at 5pm:

  • Adult Sprint: 750m/20km/5km (swim/cycle/run)
  • Adult Super Sprint: 400m/20km/4km
  • Junior and Children: 300m/4km/4km, 200m/4km/2km, 100m/4km/1.3km

All triathletes started off with an open water swim in the spectacular 38 acre Hever Castle Lake, transitioning into the cycle which took place around the 20km circuit through the High Weald of Kent an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty used on the Hever Castle Triathlon main event. The run then circumnavigated the estate and award winning castle grounds before making the dash to the finish beside the lake.

Race Director, Brian Adcock commented: ""The stunning surroundings of Hever Castle on a Spring Evening were always going to attract a keen audience. The event was a great success being hailed as a novel and inspiring way to break up the week."

The next Evening Sprint Triathlon events are due to take place on Wednesday 8th June and Wednesday 13th July. Registration is now open online and also accepted on the night.
