Triathlon Training Day: Competitors Prepare for Hever Castle Triathlon

Created On: 20 September 2010

Over 40 adults and 60 children took part in a specialist training day recently ahead of the Hever Castle Triathlon this weekend (25th/26th). The day was led by Thetrilife.com who is the largest provider of triathlon coaching services in the UK. The sessions included professional training tips for the participants as they prepare to join over 3,000 other competitors from across the county taking part in the event.

In its second year, the Hever Castle Triathlon is set to be the third largest triathlon in the country. It will also become one of the biggest children's events with children racing for the first time this year after the huge success at the previous events in the series. Participants range from first timers and families, to elite stars, all competing against the stunning backdrop of Hever Castle and raising money for the chosen charities 'Help for Heroes' and 'Jigsaw4u'.

Triathletes will start with an open water swim in the spectacular 38 acre Hever Castle Lake, transitioning into the cycle which will take place around a 20km circuit through the High Weald of Kent, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with one lap for the sprint and two laps for the Olympic distance. The run circumnavigates the estate and castle grounds before making the dash to the finish beside the lake.

Seven races are planned over the course of the two day event**, each themed after the 13th century castle's history as the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.

The Castle Triathlon Series is supported by the British Triathlon Association (BTA) as part of a major new drive to promote triathlon as a sport nationally and encourage novices to have a go. Race Director, Brian Adcock comments; "Triathlon's are becoming increasingly popular, and have been recently described as the new golf.  We want to do something different by bringing together elite triathletes as well as novice and young participants and offer an opportunity for the family to race together. This triathlon series aims to celebrate the heroes, create new ones and inspire a new breed of triathlon fans."
