Race Report: DB Max BIG Swim Evening Aquathlon Series Race 3

Things are really hotting up in the DB Max BIG Swim Evening Aquathlon Series after yesterday evenings third race of four. Competitors were yet again greeted with near perfect race conditions as they arrived at the stunning Bradford on Avon Rowing and Canoe Club venue. In the men's race Andy Dutton, of Bath Amphibians, and series leader, was faced with serious competition, and had to settle for a fourth placing behind eventual winner Martin Powell who finished in a time of 31.50mins. Andy now has a stiff challenge on the 31st August series finale.

Trowbridge triathlete, Rachel Bown demonstrated again her dominance of local multi-sport racing this summer with another convincing win in a time of 35.30mins. Racing as part of her final preparations for the World Age Group Triathlon Championships, Budapest in September, Rachel led close rival Mel Nicholls out of the water by only 10seconds. However, through transition and into the run section Rachel pulled away, finishing the 5km with an impressive 1 minute lead, and an overall 6th place.
Sean Bosworth, from Run4Fitness was again uncatchable in the men's 5km run, finishing in a time of 19.15mins, with James Williams the youngest competitor on the day coming in, in 22.12mins to take second place. In the women's 5km run Rosemary Barber of Avon Valley runners finished in a comfortable 1st place in 23.24mins, with current women's series leader Amanda Carroll finishing 2nd in a time of 24.46mins.

DB Max, in conjunction with Australian swimwear brand ZOGGS, launched this series of BIG SWIM / Aquathlon events in Wiltshire to promote multi-sport racing to all levels of ability. The first three Tuesday evening Aquathlons have been a great success with a growing entry, and competition for series prizes really hotting up. The final evening Aquathlons will be held at the stunning Bradford on Avon (Wiltshire) Canoe and Rowing Club venue on the Tuesday 31st August. The event consists of a 750m open water river swim, followed by a 5km run course that follows the picturesque canal towpath down to Avoncliffe. These high quality events offer fast, true racing, over marked courses and with chip timing. After each event there is a social BBQ at the locally renown Lock Inn and series prizes supported by ZOGGS, SNUGG and Science in Sport.
On Saturday 21st August, the open water fun moves to Vobster Quay Diving Centre (approximately 5 miles from Frome in Somerset.), which offers some of the best open water swimming in the whole of South West England. Racing starts at 1100hrs with the BIG SWIM and Aquathlons, with swim distances of 750m, 1.5km and 3.8km on offer. This is followed by in the afternoon with an open water swim clinic. The DB Max swim coaching team, which includes an elite Ironman triathlon champion, will share their knowledge and experience in an open water swimming clinic that covers all aspects of open water swim training and racing. The clinic will cater for all abilities, with plenty of opportunity for one to one feedback. Open water swimming doesn't get better than this. The events attract a field from triathlon, swimming and running clubs, however they are open to anyone and will very much welcome individuals new to the multi-sport community. If you are not sure about racing, why not come down to the riverside, watch the events and meet the DB Max team.
