Castle Howard triathlon proves it is fun to tri!

Created On: 28 July 2010

More than 350 athletes and enthusiasts from across the region turned up for the inaugural Castle Howard Triathlon on Saturday 24th July 2010.  The event, which was the second in four new triathlons in the Castle Triathlon Series, set out to encourage participation by attracting people of all abilities to compete in triathlons in fantastic locations.

Brian Adcock, event director, comments; "Everyone who attended had a fabulous day out.  The setting was truly beautiful, the sun shone and the competitors could not have been more enthusiastic about taking part in the inaugural event".

The triathlon took place in the beautiful grounds of North Yorkshire's Castle Howard and its surrounding area.  The event was open to all regardless of age, experience, or fitness level and as such participants ranged from children, families and first timers through to elite athletes.

Brian continues; "What was particularly encouraging was the variety of competitors taking part.  There were the elite athletes from the local triathlon clubs as well as school children and families all keen to give the Castle Howard triathlon a go.  We can't wait to come back again next year and build on this initial success."

The organisers were delighted that the children's races proved to be so popular, attracting just under  one hundred competitors across the three sections.  The races were divided according to age and the race distances varied accordingly.

The event proved to be a fun day out for all the family with hundreds turning up to lend their support to friends and family competing in the event.  Spectators were also given free access to the Castle Howard Estate and there were stalls, food & drink as well as camping available to athletes travelling from further afield.

Castle Howard's Events Manager, Lisa Parker-Gomm  commented: "The triathlon  was a completely  different way to experience all that our beautiful  Estate has to offer.  It was a huge team effort to produce this event, and we're delighted that it turned out to be a winner! "

The Castle Howard triathlon is the second in a series of four triathlons set in stunning locations.  The next triathlon in the series will take place at Chateau de Chantilly (Paris) on the 29 August followed by the final triathlon at Hever Castle (Kent) on 25 & 26 September.
